This article is the extended version of a paper presented in the Conference La Musica al tempo di Caravaggio held on 29 September 2010 in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana in Milan as part of the commemoration of the fourth centenary of Caravaggio’s death. The study examines information concerning castrato lutenists such as Caravaggio’s Lute player in Italy around 1600, the connections with the Barbarino lute book, and the activities of professional singer lutenists. I have uploaded a copy of the manuscript of this article for anyone who is interested.
