This paper investigates Mauro Giuliani’s approach to blending Veinnese sonata form with the Italian bel canto. Special attention will be paid to the conflict between A major and C major and its role in the medial caesura and the recapitulation. This paper also explores the question of the Gran Sonata’s authenticity and the role of the Classical guitar’s idiomatic key areas in the structure and design of the sonata.
